Kolkata Knight Riders Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was sentenced to a fine of 25% of his match costs and gave a demerit point for breaking the IPL code of driving during the match against Chennai Super Kings. CSK, which came out of the playoff race, beat the team at home by two counters at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday to effectively end the hope of Ajinkya Rahane to do the first four.
“Varun Chakaravarthy admitted the level 1 offense under article 2.5 and accepted the sanction of the match referee. For level 1 violations of the Code of Driving, the decision of the match referee is final and restrictive,” said the IPL declaration, without specifying the incident.
Article 2.5 concerns any “language, action or gesture used by a player and directed towards a striker during his dismissal, who has the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction of the licensed strike”.
Chakravarthy, who scored two counters, made a gesture to Dewald Brevis to leave the field after rejected him in 52 years. The half-century of the South African played a vital role in the CSK winning the competition.
