Ahmedabad to host T20 World Cup 2026 opener and final

As per The Indian Express, Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad will host both the opening game and the final of the T20 World Cup 2026. Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium has also been short-listed to host one of the semi-final. As per the report, an India vs Pakistan semi-final, should it take place, will be held in Colombo while the other semi-final will take place at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The report also claims that while Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Chennai will be the five venues used in India, Colombo, Pallekele and one among Dambulla and Hambantota will be the venues used in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the report also states that while Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy stadium was snubbed as venue for main games, it could be used for warm-up matches. The report states that it was decided in a meeting of BCCI officials that each venue would get at least six games each. Additionally, the report states that there is no clarity on possibility of games at the Chinnaswamy stadium following the stampede that occurred after RCB won IPL 2025.

The Indian board is yet to decide whether they will host warm-up games in Centre of Excellence (CoE) or whether they will play in Chinnaswamy Stadium,” the report stated.

Guwahati, Vishakhapatnam, Navi Mumbai and Indore will not be able to host T20 World Cup 2026 games since they already hosted Women’s World Cup 2025 matches.
