Suryakumar Yadav admitted that he couldn’t strike balance between T20Is and ODIs and has sought help from Ab de Villiers
India cricket team T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has revealed that he intends to play ODIs too in the future. The Mumbai batter is currently out of the scheme of things in the 50-over format of the game, although he has played 37 ODIs to date. SKY admitted that he had failed to strike balance between T20Is and ODIs, leading to his ouster from the Indian team in the latter format.
SKY wants ABD’s help to play ODIs again
In an interview with Vimal Kumar, Suryakumar revealed that he never had had a long conversation with Ab de Villiers and that if he did get a chance in the near future, then he would ask the former Proteas captain how he can strike balance between T20Is and ODIs. The Indian T20I captain pointed out that ABD was phenomenal in both T20Is and ODIs, while he also did well in Test. Noting that the next four years were very important for him, SKY appealed to ABD to urgently have a conversation with him and help him out.
“If I meet him soon, then I want to ask him (de Villiers) how did he balance his T20I and ODI game? Because I have not been able to do so. I thought ODI should be played like T20I. I want to ask him what did he do to be successful in both formats. AB, if you are listening to this, please get in touch with me quickly because there are important three-four years for me ahead. And I’m very keen on playing ODI cricket also. Please help me! I couldn’t balance between T20Is and ODIs,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
SKY made his ODI debut in 2021 and last played in a 50-over format game in 2023 in the World Cup final against Australia. Since then, he has been restricted to just T20Is.
