PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the ACC Chairman, could be in massive trouble after ICC’s AGM meeting.
Mohsin Naqvi will be absent from Friday’s International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Board meeting in Dubai. The PCB chairman, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, is required in Islamabad for a Senate session where the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment is expected to be presented and approved. His absence comes just as the BCCI prepares to raise serious concerns against him after he ran away with the Asia Cup trophy with him.
With Naqvi in Pakistan, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed will represent Pakistan at the ICC table. According to Telecom Asia Sport, Naqvi joining via video link is very unlikely. His non-attendance removes the possibility of a direct clash with the Indian board, but the tensions are far from resolved.
BCCI plans to file charge sheet vs Naqvi
The BCCI is set to submit a formal charge sheet against Naqvi, citing a conflict of interest. The board argues that holding simultaneous positions as PCB chairman and Interior Minister violates ICC governance rules, which prohibit government interference in the functioning of national cricket boards.
The dispute started back in the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. After India beat Pakistan in the final on September 28, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, after his infuriating actions as a Pakistani. No Indian player shook hands with any Pakistani player throughout the tournament as well and just didn’t want to accept the trophy from Naqvi.
Naqvi, the ACC president, maintained that he alone had the authority to present the trophy and later offered a separate ceremony in Dubai, which India rejected. Naqvi subsequently relocated the cup to another location, with the PCB chairman demanding an active player of the Indian team meet him personally to receive the trophy.
