The weekend series between Texas and Detroit presented a fraternal slideshow.
Third base base Josh Jung, Rangers and Jace Jung of Tigers, held a family meeting while their teams compete. Their parents were in town, adding to the family atmosphere.
The final of the series will be played on Sunday afternoon in Detroit.
“It’s super cool for us and super cool for the family,” said Josh Jung. “Especially with that he falls on Mother’s Day. It’s really remarkable.”
Josh achieved a blow in four at-bats and Jace went 0 for 3 in the 10-3 of Texas victory on Saturday, which ended the sequence of five consecutive victories of the Tigers.
Until this weekend, the Jung brothers were separated on the ball for a while when they moved through minors and in their professional career.
“The last time my brother and I were on the same ground, we played together and my father was in fact one of the coaches,” Josh Jung, 27, told Detroit News before the series. “It was my last year in high school (MacArthur High in San Antonio). Jace (now 24 years old) was a first -year student. Here we are, eight years later and we are on a large league field. It’s quite special.”
Detroit will have to cool the Corey Seager stop stop to start another sequence. Seager had a fairly special evening, breaking two solo circuits and a double RBI on Saturday.
“A frustrating night we can get away today and try to win the series tomorrow,” said Tigers manager AJ Hinch.
Seaager returned to action after taking two games to rest his hamstrings Gimpti, who landed on the list of injured last month.
“It is not entirely 100% and we will have our moments when we have to give him a break,” said director Bruce Bochy. “He tightened on him (Wednesday) and you don’t want to risk that it gets worse.”
Seager increased his total of Home Run to his 19th Multi-Homer career in career.
Reese Olson, who has not authorized a race in three of his last four departures, will take the mound for the Tigers. Olson (4-2, 3.03 ERA) received six days off after hearing the Los Angeles Angels aimless for 5 2/3 rounds. He limited them to three strokes while accumulating a top of eight stick withdrawals.
The right-hander is 0-1 with an MPM of 2.25 in two career starts against Texas. He has never faced seager in his young career.
Nathan Eovaldi (3-2, 2.03) will start the final of the series for the Rangers. Eovaldi has marked four straight quality outings, performing six rounds each time and allowing two deserved or less runs.
During his first release in May Tuesday, Eovaldi held Boston to a round and five strokes, walking one and withdrawing seven. Eovaldi control was stellar throughout his first eight departures – he only walked four years while recording 53 stick withdrawals in 48 2/3 rounds.
Eovaldi was a good success against Detroit during his career. In seven departures, he posted a file of 4-0 and 3.00 ERA. He had a decision without a decision against the Tigers last season while abandoning a point in 5 2/3 rounds while marking seven sticks to the stick.
