Bowl or not play?

The search for India for a versatile bowling of rhythm seemed to have ended when Nitish Kumar Reddy struck a sparkling century in Melbourne. The youngster of Hyderabad, playing in his first series in Australia, standing against an attack which boasted of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon. And he also played the average pace. All good signs with another tour in England on the line in 6 months.

However, these 6 months did not go too well for the 21 -year -old. This is not useful in the 5 tests of the Gavaskar trophy, there is a clear argument for India and Gautam Gambir to leave the versatile out of game XI. Although there are ingredients to make him a player who changes the situation, his shape simply deserted him in the preparation of the India VS England series.

Gautam Gambir’s Nitish Reddy Conundrum

Over the years, India has preferred to have a versatile sewing bowling alley in the Xi Playing when they turn in England. Stuart Binny, Hhelik Pandya and even Shardul Thakur played this role for Mrs. Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma over the years in England. Pat Cummins even dropped Reddy from Srh’s XI for his essential match against the Capitals of Delhi.

Even in Australia, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah did not count much on Nitish Reddy with the ball. In the 5 tests, the 21 -year -old played only 44 letters, picking up 5 counters. In comparison, Harshit Rana, who only played the 2 tests, played 45 Overs. The management of the workload being the key, Reddy might have to participate in many more overs. This, when he has not played in a match for more than 3 months.

Otherwise Nitish, then who?

Unfortunately for Gautam Gambhir and the new captain of India, the Indian team has not been equipped with options when it comes to punctuating the versatile bowling. Shardul Thakur played for the last time for India during the tour of South Africa in 2023. The veteran recovered 35 counters in 9 Ranji trophy games and scored a laudable 505 points to an average of 42.08.

Thakur played four tests in England, picking up 10 counters. The 33-year-old man has 173 points with three half-century, including one in the final of the world championship against Australia.

Shardul and Nitish Reddy will be under discussion when the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar decides on the team from the India VS England series. It remains to be seen if the selectors see the value in Reddy as a bowling option. As for Gautam Gambhir, his short term saw him having several options in the XI, just like his KKR days as captain and mentor.
