Samson was retained for INR 18 crore by RR while Jadeja and Curran are worth INR 20.40 crore combined.

In an interesting twist in the tale, the trade between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) has been virtually confirmed. It was reported that Sanju Samson, who has expressed a desire to leave the franchise, would be traded in exchange for a top CSK player.

Sanju Samson CSK trade takes a turn

Earlier today, it was reported that the top player in question would be Ravindra Jadeja. But that wasn’t all. It was additionally added that RR don’t just want Jadeja from CSK to confirm the trade but want another player to make it fair since its Samson they were talking about. The name they put forth was destructive South African batter Dewald Brevis.

However, things have changed in a matter of hours. Now, according to ESPNcricinfo, Brevis isn’t the player that RR demanded. Instead, the 2008 champs want English all-rounder Sam Curran alongside Jadeja.

This would mean RR will get two all-rounders, one spin and one pace, for their captain and wicketkeeper but would lose an extra INR 2.40 crore, since that’s Curran’s current price while Jadeja will cancel out Samson as both are paid INR 18 crore at the moment.

It’s learnt that both RR and CSK have already spoken to Samson, Jadeja, and Curran but haven’t confirmed the trade just yet. The franchises have also sent the names of the players involved in the trade to the IPL Governing Council (GC).

Since the retention deadline for the IPL 2026 auction isn’t far away, November 15, the franchises have to get written consent from the players. After that, they’ll convene amongst themselves to finalise the agreement, and lastly, the IPL GC will approve the trade.
