The former English versatile Moeen Ali supported the three lions to beat an exhausted Indian team in the next series of five -game game tests. India, after the pensions of their two pillars – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – will have their task withdrawn during the tour in England, to feel Moeen. Rohit announced his retirement last week before Kohli followed the trial on Monday, ending days of speculation on their uncertain future. Addressing Sky Sports, Moeen suggested that the absence of Rohit and Kohli will be a huge boost for the hosts.
“Certainly, I think it’s a massive boost for England. Two best players who went to England a few times on tour, so they have experience. Rohit and Kohli had their peril and glory time before looting the races in 2018. Moeen.
Moeen recalled the last tour of India in England where Rohit has established itself as a usual test, marking 368 points in four tests at an average of 52.57.
“I remember that Rohit played very well the last time they were in England. The character they have, the leaders they (are), both have Captain of India in test cricket, so yes a massive loss for the team,” he added.
Former Kohli teammate in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Moeen described his solid coup to test the cricket.
“It is (Kohli’s retreat) a massive blow to test the cricket. He was the only pioneer, the only guy in the test cricket who has always pushed the format. Amazing player, incredible career,” said Moeen.
Moeen also compared Kohli to the legendary Sachin Tentulkar striker in terms of impact on cricket, in particular in India.
“He did enough. He did so much for the game himself, especially in India. I think that after Sachin (tendulkar), he was the guy that everyone saw watching and he filled stadiums. Amazing record, a brilliant player to look at too. The style with which he played (he added) very competitive and a brilliant captain too.
