After their long -awaited first victory of the season, CF Montreal could have enough momentum to avenge a previous defeat against the crew of Columbus.
Two clubs at the opposite ends in the Eastern Conference classification are competed on Wednesday evening in Montreal.
Only the Galaxy of Los Angeles remains without victory after Montreal (1-8-3, 6 points) won a 1-0 victory in the New York City FC last weekend. Prince Owusu’s goal as soon as half-time was released was the only offense of the match and was only the sixth goal this season for Montreal, which suffered six defeats from a booty in 2025.
“We knew that we had to do better, but we never really too low on ourselves, even when we did not get positive results,” said Montreal defender Jalen Neal. “… We really wanted to show that we really care about this club, that we care this season.”
One of these defeats near Montreal came 2-1 to Columbus on April 5. Owusu, who posted half the total of his team in 2025, also scored in the 50th minute of this competition. But Montreal was already down 2-0 after the first half goals of Aziel Jackson and Jacen Russell-Rowe.
This triumph was part of a sequence of victories of three three game games for the crew (7-1-4, 25 points), which is second in the east, but which are tied with the FC Cincinnati of first place on points.
While Montreal is 0-2-1 at home this season, Columbus is 3-0-2 on the road. The goal of Sean Zawadzki in the third minute of the second half arrest allowed the crew to save a point via a 2-2 draw in Philadelphia last weekend.
“We respect all the opponents, but we don’t fear anyone,” said Columbus and ex-montreal coach Wilfried Nancy. “We know that each match is important.”
With two scores this season, Zawadzki is one of the five crew players with several goals. Russell-Rowe has only one goal in five games after winning his fourth of the year and obtained a decisive pass against Montreal last month.
Columbus has been 4-0-2 against Montreal since a home defeat 2-1 in August 2022. The last defeat of the crew in Montreal occurred in 2019.
