Outer Delhi Warriors failed to defend 231/7 against the East Delhi Riders.
History was made at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as the East Delhi Riders recorded the highest run-chase in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) history. The Anuj Rawat-led side hammered down the chase of 232, that too, in 19.2 overs against the Outer Delhi Warriors.
East Delhi script history on back of Anuj Rawat
Outer Delhi Warriors had set the tone for a run-fest after electing to bat first. Priyansh Arya, who had been searching for form earlier in the tournament, produced his finest knock yet – a breathtaking 111 off 56 deliveries, decorated with 7 fours and 9 towering sixes. His aggressive intent from ball one left the Riders’ bowlers rattled. Partner Karan Garg’s quickfire 43 off 24 added further momentum as Warriors piled up 231/7 in their 20 overs, the highest total of this year’s DPL.
In reply, the Riders stumbled early, losing three wickets for just 51 runs. The game seemed to be tilting decisively towards the Warriors until Arpit Rana and skipper Anuj Rawat joined forces. What followed was a counterattack and power. The pair added 130 runs for the fourth wicket, dismantling the bowling attack with a mix of clean hitting and smart placement.
Rana’s composed 79 off 45 balls (8 fours, 4 sixes) provided stability, but it was Rawat who turned the contest on its head. His blistering 84 from just 35 balls, studded with 2 boundaries and 9 sixes, broke the back of the chase. By the time Rana departed, the Riders needed just 51 from 34 balls, a task Rawat and the lower order completed with four balls to spare.
