The electronic sports industry in India has received a significant thrust with its inclusion as a demonstration sport in the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (Kiyg) which was held in Bihar. By making a strong impression, the host state has obtained several finishes among the first three on various events, highlighting its emergence as a force in this rapidly growing field. In total, eight states participated in the demonstration event, in competition in disciplines such as BGMI, Chess, Street Fighter 6 and Efootball. The event reflected the accelerated route from India to the recognition of electronic sports as a legitimate sport based on skills equally with traditional Olympic disciplines.

Among all categories, BGMI continues to hold first place as the most popular electronic sport in India. Sixteen teams – Two of each state – are challenged for the best finishes in Kiyg 2025. Bihar’s A and B teams won the first and third places, while Team A du Tamil Nadu was sandwiched between the two home teams.

In the event of the electronic ball console, Arnav Rajiv Parikh of the Tamil Nadu came out victorious, followed by Tanav Raj of the Bihar in the second and the Ronit Sagar Satam of the Maharashtra in third. Danger added, “This initiative by Khelo India helped India take competition sports at school and college. It not only improves the capacities of young people, but also serves as a large platform to illuminate talents. Therefore, the inclusion of electronic sports is a very welcome decision.
